Mom Charged After Son Arrested In Text Message Rescue Case
Authorities say the mother of a man accused of abducting and assaulting a 14-year-old girl has been charged with helping
her son elude authorities and survive in underground bunkers. Vinson Filyaw was charged
late last year with raping a 12-year-old girl. He was charged this past weekend with kidnapping and raping a 14-year-old
girl. The teen sent her mother a cell phone text message that led to her rescue Saturday.
The 36-year-old Filyaw was captured early Sunday and was being held at the county jail without bond. Sheriff Stephen
McCaskill says Filyaw's mother, 55-year-old Ginger Nell Cobb, had been providing her son with food and water since the 2005
arrest warrant was issued. Filyaw's common-law wife, Cynthia Hall, is also charged with
providing supplies to him.
